The substance misuse team within NHS Forth Valley is an integral part of the wider area approach to the challenges of substance misuse. It is divided into two teams based on geographical area (Stirling area & Falkirk area). The majority of referrals come from the GP although other sources of referral come from other services e.g. Signpost.

The service offers, to those referred, a specialist assessment of an individual’s substance misuse problems. From here staff can offer information on appropriate treatment pathways or advice and signposting to other services. For instance, alcohol detoxification programmes can be offered as outpatient or inpatient pending on a mutually agreed pathway by patient and the service.
